My Youth Group Poem

By Lorin Gilchrist

We are so different, yet so alike
Brought together by the power of God
We join for a weekend but connect for life
We sing for our God and for all of His people
The songs are of love and filled with our thanks
For dying on the cross with His crown of thorns
For the pain He endured and the sacrifices He gave
We cannot believe the things He has done
And all for the sake of having us free
Our group is so tight so fast so close
We respect each other and the beliefs that we have
The jokes that we tell are unique and original
“The Tighty Whities of Jerusalem” is just one of the many
And the stroll on the boardwalk was one to remember
When they’re told we remember the good times we’ve had
The new jokes we make let the new friends join in
We laugh with each other and bond even closer
In just a weekend we learn so much
The comfort we feel with ourselves and each other
Is something we have, it’s something we share
We strengthen our bonds with each meeting we have
By talking and giving advice to our peers
A base of support and a place for understanding
Our youth group just fits and we’re simply a family
